Many Americans base their food purchases on whether or not the food is genetically modified. The opinions of these Americans vary from good to bad. Some people think that eating these genetically modified foods will cause them to become sick. Half of the nation has labelled GMO’s as unsafe, and in many places throughout the world there are restrictions on the production and sale of GMO’s. Approximately 80% of the United States’ food contain GMO’s. The most commonly seen GMO’s are cotton, soy, corn, canola, sugar beets, squash, and zucchini. Many of these items are probably in your food pantry at home, they are key ingredients to a lot of foods. Although this may seem like a difficult thing to avoid, there are lists of foods that are genetically modified listed on many websites. Also, buying organic foods for you and your family is the best way to ensure that you are not going to be consuming any genetically modified foods. These GMO’s impact the environment, as well as the farmers. GMO’s have herbicide tolerance, and are responsible for the outbreak of “super weeds” and “super bugs”, both of which can only be killed by toxic poisons.
