A Polluted World

Pollution is a problem that has been in the world for years and years. It has a number of negative effects to your health, to the environment you live in, and also the living organisms that occupy those environments. Pollution isn’t just occurring in one form or coming from one source, there is aquatic pollution effecting the fish and water animals, environmental pollution which comes from littering and the inappropriate dumping of waste, air pollution that effects the air we breathe coming from factories, steel mills, and the pollution released when we get in our car and drive every day. This is why I feel pollution is such a problem, because it’s not just affecting one aspect of humanity and isn’t confined to one place or country. It is a problem that occurs all throughout the world. Some facts that I found shocking dealing with aquatic pollution were that over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year; 14 billion pounds of garbage are dumped into the ocean every year. Most of it is plastic, and over 1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. 5,000 people die each day due to dirty drinking water. 5,000 people dying each day because of unsafe drinking water seems like such an extremely high death rate over something that we take for granted every day. Pollution is a problem that will continue for the rest of our lives, but there are easy ways that we could eliminate it and take a part in doing what we can do prevent it.
